Description Ferry 2007-02-11 14:00:57 UTC
On ubuntu for example when one uses gnome to umount external media like USB sticks a progress bar is shown when it has a dirty buffer (unwritten data) to prevent you from unplugging the media too early.

This is filed as a bug with gnome, but it's taking quite long. Perhaps you could be so kind to apply the patch for now.

Please see gnome bug 313639 at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313639

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install gnome

Feature requests really need to go upstream...
Comment 2 Ferry 2007-02-12 17:22:02 UTC
What/who do you mean by upstream?

Also, it's not only a feature. Immediately appearing as if the device is unmounted whilst there is still a dirty buffer that's being written to it is not ok if you ask me. Unless you like data corruption ofcourse :)

upstream is the Gnome project. Feature requests go in http://bugzilla.gnome.org
Comment 4 Ferry 2007-02-13 23:02:23 UTC
Ah ok thanks. It's already there, was targetted for 2.14, didn't make 2.16 appearantly and there still isn't a definite answer. Just see what you do with it , it's just a request. If you don't shoot you always miss :)

About adding patches for features and usuability it's something we should discuss on gnome team from the inside.

Marking this as upstream as this really is a feature request, and they havent yet even decided the implementation.
