As I was about to prepare a bug report for a dependency issue, I realized my problem was due to the fact that I didn't pay close enough attention to the version numbers of the packages I was dealing with. amaroK depended on mongrel, but mongrel blocked amaroK. I was going to submit this, but then I realized that amaroK was being updated too, and this future version did not conflict. The error was that amaroK was version 1.4.4-r3, and the one to be installed was -r4. A slight change, but critical. Please add a warning to the bug submission page: http://bugs.gentoo.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Gentoo%20Linux&format=guided asking the user to check versions carefully. This would have saved me some time, and the bug maintainers' time as well. Reproducible: Always
