After emerging portage-2.0.47-r7 I can no longer emerge ebuilds. Portage just hangs in the unpacking stage (without using any CPU time). After removing "sandbox" and "usersandbox" from the FEATURES in make.conf it worked. More info on the forums (see above URL). I don't know if it was sandbox or usersandbox causing the problem but it seemed to make sense to try removing them both. Greetings, Jan. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.update portage and do everything it asks 2.emerge any ebuild 3. Actual Results: $ emerge -u wireless-tools Calculating dependencies ...done! >>> emerge (1 of 1) net-wireless/wireless-tools-24 to / >>> md5 ;-) wireless_tools.24.tar.gz >>> Unpacking source... >>> Unpacking wireless_tools.24.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/wireless-tools-24/work and then nothing happens
Is this a problem still in -r10?
Yes, it still gives this problem with portage-r10 I have learned from the gentoo-ppc forums that this is a well know problem on ppc. Jan.
could you tell me your glibc version please? emerge info would do
Oops, I replied to your mail but it seems to have gotten lost somewere emerge info: Portage 2.0.47-r10 (default-ppc-1.0, gcc-2.95.3, glibc-2.2.5-r4,2.2.5-r8) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-ben10 ppc GENTOO_MIRRORS=" http://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo// ftp://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo// ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo ftp://gentoo.linux.no/pub/gentoo/ http://194.83.57.2/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://gentoo.linux.no/" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/share/config /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" USE="oss dvd xv libwww nls mitshm qt kde ppc gnome-libs gdbm berkdb slang readline bonobo java guile mysql X sdl tcpd esd oggvorbis gnome gtk motif opengl mozilla gtkhtml tcltk imlib ncurses gif jpeg png tiff ssl pam crypt socks5 truetype freetype xml xml2 pdflib perl python samba gpm dga" COMPILER="" CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mcpu=750 -mpowerpc-gfxopt -mmultiple -mstring" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -mcpu=750 -mpowerpc-gfxopt -mmultiple -mstring" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="ppc" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="buildpkg ccache userpriv"
still an issue ?
portage is now at 2.0.49-r21 Apparently it does even less now if sandbox and usersandbox are enabled: $ emerge wireless-tools Calculating dependencies ...done! >>> emerge (1 of 1) net-wireless/wireless-tools-26 to / >>> md5 src_uri ;-) wireless_tools.26.tar.gz and there it keeps idling
Don't spose anyone can give some feedback on what it actually is doing while idling...
Slapping this invalid, no further confirmation/info on it...
Can't duplicate this, and it's god awful old.
