Description Jan Wuyts 2003-02-28 13:58:46 UTC
After emerging portage-2.0.47-r7 I can no longer emerge ebuilds. Portage just
hangs in the unpacking stage (without using any CPU time).
After removing "sandbox" and "usersandbox" from the FEATURES in make.conf it
worked. More info on the forums (see above URL).
I don't know if it was sandbox or usersandbox causing the problem but it seemed
to make sense to try removing them both.
Greetings,

Jan.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.update portage and do everything it asks
2.emerge any ebuild
3.

Actual Results:
$ emerge -u wireless-tools
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-wireless/wireless-tools-24 to /
>>> md5 ;-) wireless_tools.24.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking wireless_tools.24.tar.gz to /var/tmp/portage/wireless-tools-24/work

and then nothing happens

Is this a problem still in -r10?
Comment 2 Jan Wuyts 2003-03-27 17:01:45 UTC
Yes, it still gives this problem with portage-r10
I have learned from the gentoo-ppc forums that this is a well know problem on ppc.

still an issue ?
Comment 6 Jan Wuyts 2004-02-05 00:04:57 UTC
portage is now at 2.0.49-r21
Apparently it does even less now if sandbox and usersandbox are enabled:

$ emerge  wireless-tools
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) net-wireless/wireless-tools-26 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) wireless_tools.26.tar.gz

and there it keeps idling
Comment 7 Brian Harring (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-08-10 23:25:08 UTC
Don't spose anyone can give some feedback on what it actually is doing while idling...
Comment 8 Brian Harring (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-27 22:24:44 UTC
Slapping this invalid, no further confirmation/info on it...

Can't duplicate this, and it's god awful old.
