Description Anarkakari 2007-02-07 02:18:18 UTC
I am running gentoo with arch = "amd64".
I emerged mozilla-firefox-bin per http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AMD_64
now when I run firefox-bin which should start the x86/32-bit firefox binary, I get the following error about loading libstdc++.so.5:

anarkakari@ishani ~ $ firefox-bin
/opt/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/opt/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Unknown error 127 from mozilla-xremote-client
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (127)
anarkakari@ishani ~ $

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. "emerge mozilla-firefox-bin" (on amd64)
2. run "firefox-bin"

Actual Results:
I recieved the following errors when running firefox-bin:

/opt/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/opt/firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Unknown error 127 from mozilla-xremote-client
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (127)

Expected Results:
The software should have started the prebuild 32-bit mozilla firefox binary

Okay.. running "emerge emul-linux-x86-compat" fixed this, but it was already installed, so I am not sure why I had to re-emerge it.... Not marking bug as resolved, since I shouldn't have had to re-emerge the compatability libs... Dropping severity though...

Don't see what's to be fixed here, closing.
