Description Giacomo Ferrari 2007-02-05 07:23:17 UTC
OK, this is extremely wierd, and extremely reproducible.

1. I start up Umbrello, and make 2 classes, A and B.
2. I add 2 attributes of type B to a, resulting in 2 Composition arrows pointing from A to B, as expected.
3. I try to drag the lines of the arrows to try to re-route them, or do anything remotely involving the Compositions question.
4. Hang at 100% CPU usage.

All other types of arrows have no problem... Also, this does not happen if there is only one Composition arrow. It seems there is only a problem if there are 2 or more Composition arrows coming from class A to class B.

This happens in KDE and Gnome, and works like clockwork. Why does such a simple thing cause a crash? I'm not being mean here, I just would like to know what is strange about my system that causes this very specific bug... Anyways, the program has never recovered from such a crash, and has cost me quite a lot of time and lost work... Not to mention I cannot complete my assignment (for my class) because I can't have multiple Composition arrows... arrgh...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Umbrello
2. Make 2 classes, say, A and B.
2. Add 2 (or more) attributes of type B to A, resulting in Composition arrows pointing from A to B, as expected.
3. Drag the lines of the arrows to try to re-route them, or click anywhere near the arrows, or try to modify any parameters involving the Compositions.
4. Hang at 100% CPU usage.

Comment 2 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-07 19:28:22 UTC
have you reported this to the Umbrello developers at bugs.kde.org? Sounds like an issue they might need to know about.
Comment 3 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-07 19:29:31 UTC
Also look at bug 164174, it might be related?
Comment 4 Charlie Shepherd (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-09 15:52:51 UTC
I assume this is with umbrello-3.5.5? Have you tried umbrello-3.5.6?
Comment 5 Giacomo Ferrari 2007-02-09 19:19:02 UTC
Yes, this is with 3.5.5. I have not tested with 3.5.6, as that would require me using the ~amd64 version of kdelibs, which I don't have time to do right now (I use GNOME, the only reason I even have kdelibs is to run umbrello, as it is critical for my work). I'll post more info when I do have time.
I have looked at the other bug, and it does strike me as similar. However, that one results in a outright crash, as I understand it. This problem simply results in an infinite loop of sorts.
Comment 6 Alistair Bush (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-24 02:12:42 UTC
Could we please make this bug with NEEDINFO.
Comment 7 Ioannis Aslanidis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-24 08:29:49 UTC
Rather I'd like to ask Giacomo if he could paste his `emerge --info' again together with the results of testing 'umbrello' on version 3.5.6.
