Description Bill Clark 2003-02-27 18:41:10 UTC
For weeks I have been trying to upgrade to KDE 3.1

It alway halts at upgrading xfree to 4.2.99

So I try to do by hand an emerge -uv x11-base/xfree
And here are the results everyday for the last couple weeks:

Calculating dependencies    ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) x11-base/xfree-4.2.99 to /
>>> Downloading http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu//distfiles/X4299-2.tar.bz2
>>> Downloading
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/distfiles/X4299-
2.tar.bz2
>>> Downloading http://www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/gentoo-sources/Calculating

Other messages have ERROR 404: Not Found

I have checked the mirror myself and this X4299-2.tar.bz2 file doesn't exist!

hmm

please emerge sync

xfree-4.2.99 is not even in the tree any more. The most recent is xfree-4.2.99.902

I can't rsync through our firewall. But I do download the snapshot daily.
I am up to date on downloading snapshots.

any update on this? I think the snapshot was recently upgraded no?
Comment 4 Bill Clark 2003-03-03 11:46:13 UTC
Luckily I work in the Data Security Group. So I added a rule to our firewall to all me unrestricted access to rsync. After I did this my xfree problem was solved. What do people who have no control over firewalls do? I was under the impression I could just download the snapshots and do some emerge cleans and things would keep in sync. Evidently this is not the case.

avenj -- punting to you becuase this was a portage snapshot issue (specifically the snapshot was old and crusty)
Comment 6 Bill Clark 2003-03-09 10:44:49 UTC
This bug can be closed anytime now. Since I reported the problem was fixed once I let rsync through our firewalls.

Was the snapshot itself bad or were new snapshots not getting there? If the snapshot itself was bad, it's mholzer's bug - he does the snapshots.

jon: quick solve :)

a) the snapshot is created once a day (daily - selfasking filename)

b) emerge-webrsync is in portage noch (2.0.47+).

if you use a very very old gentoolkit, emerge-webrsync doesn't delete old files

closing this now
