Description Stefan de Konink 2007-01-31 16:53:28 UTC
I wonder if nvidia-settings can be changed to a slotted package. Currently only the 2005 version seems to work with the legacy-drivers. Otherwise the application complains it has the wrong protocol.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have an old nvidia card
2. emerge nvidia-legacy-drivers
3. emerge nvidia-settings

Actual Results:
Latest version can't do the job.

Expected Results:
Only make the compatible version install.

Really fail to see what would be slotting useful for here...

Please try with nvidia-settings-1.0.20070302

Same problem here with 20061102 as with 20070302. Both will start up, but you can not do anything useful with it. Both versions complain about a wrong version of the "NV-CONTROL extension":

ERROR: NV-CONTROL extension version 1.6 is too old; the minimimum required version is 1.11.

nvidia-settings-1.0.20051122-r3 works fine.

Err, the newer nvidia-settings don't support the older drivers and likely never will. I've added a blocker on the newer versions of nvidia-settings to nvidia-legacy-drivers and hope this will resolve the issue. If not, I'll add blockers on the nvidia-settings side, also.
