Description Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-30 19:34:25 UTC
As per summary, the ALSA_TOOLS variable referenced at the end of the ALSA guide, is going to be phased out soon, as the current status is not entirely sane, especially considered the quite reduced size of the package on its own.

Especially:

> Some specific sound cards can benefit from certain tools provided by the
> alsa-tools and alsa-firmware packages. If you need alsa-tools, be sure to
> define the ALSA_TOOLS variable in /etc/make.conf with the tools you require.

The "be sure" part is flawed, because it works way better if you _don't_ set up ALSA_TOOLS.

I'm going to get rid of that variable from the public in 1.0.14_rc2-r1, so please remove it from the guide.

Thanks.

Next time, just file one bug per document. It's completely unnecessary to spam us this way.

Fixed in CVS, thanks for reporting.
