After a fresh install of Gentoo, I attempted to install the media-sound/cplay package however the compilation failed because the command msgfmt didn't exist. I found out that this was part of the gettext package and after installing this, cplay compiled fine.

Should the ebuild depend on gettext?

1. emerge cplay (without gettext installed)

Compilation error

Expected Results:  
cplay is installed
