Not maintained by Gnome team. Reassigning to net-im, who is the maintainer of gaim as per metadata.xml

What version of fontconfig, gtk+, freetype, pango you using? Look's like it's gentoo specific

Is this still a problem with latest pidgin?
No problems in pidgin 2.5.2.
