gentoo1.4_rc2.iso, logitech USB mouse, ECI HiFocus ADSL USB Modem after booting from cd, usb devices don't work Unplugging/replugging gives error -110 from usb.o, device doesn't accept new address Thus installing was not possible (no internet connection) Suggestion: -Include stable standard kernel sources in Stage1 to allow users to build a kernel without needing internet connection. -Include driver for my modem: http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/index.php?lang=en
have you tried latest livecds ? -rc4
this won't work either wih rc4 or even 1.4 final because an external driver is needed, the one that the reporter linked to. There is an ebuild for v0.8 on this site : http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download/eciadsl-usermode-0.8.ebuild latest proposed for inclusion in portage tree was 0.7 : http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16629 but it did not make its way into portage i modified the 0.8 ebuild a bit, so i attach it here
Created attachment 18397 [details] ebuild for usb modem v0.8, for 2.4 kernel it supports quite all USB modems based on GlobeSpan chips (around 20% of the european USB modem market, also used in brazil ...) it should be in the gentoo CD !!! (as there is already one for alcatel speedtouch)
As far as I can see, it is nowhere to be found on the CD. The ebuild file is included in the portage snapshot on the CD, but the distfile is absent. Therefore, when I tried to emerge globespan-adsl, portage tried to fetch the distfile from the Internet. However, I was not yet connected to the Internet because globespan-adsl is the only package that can connect me to the Internet, and it is the one I needed to fetch. It would be wise to include the distfile as well on the next release of the liveCD. (perhaps 2004.2?) It's size is only 250KB, so it will not kill the CD.
old bug, reopen if necessary
It may be old, but it is still vaild. As for 2004.2 LiveCD, the globspan-adsl driver was nowhere to be found. :(
.
Reassigning to livecd guys. The request here is either to include globespan-adsl in distfiles, or to provide it as a ready-to-go module on the LiveCD. I don't think providing it as a ready-to-go module is an option right now since its broken with 2.6.8 (we'd have to wait for 2.6.9).
This has been added to the packagecd spec file that I am using.
