Description Rex Washburn 2003-02-22 16:05:34 UTC
I am using the athlon-xp GRP live cd. I checked my /etc/resolv.conf to make
sure my info was present on the second attempt. When I unpack the stage3
tarball it overwrites my information with the name server information from
gentoo.org. I checked /etc/hosts file and it contained the IP info for the
Gentoo environment. I only checked /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts and both
contained gentoo.org info. I used net-setup eth0 to configure networking and
it was up and running.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Follow install directions from gentoo.org site
2.Double check /etc/resolv.conf to ensure it contains your info and not
gentoo.org info
3.Unpack stage3 tarball from athlon-xp GRP cd
4./etc/resolv.conf should now be overwritten with gentoo info.

Actual Results:
config files are overwritten with gentoo network info.

Expected Results:
Following the install directions should have yielded a system that could
emerge sync without hand configuring the system.

More Info: Using the athlon-xp GRP live cd when installing using the stage 3 tarball networking is disrupted preventing emerge to occur. I manually update using ifconfig after chrooting into the new environment. Once networking is updated I am able to continue with the installation.

the documentation is now correct, and resolv.conf is copied after the tarball is extracted.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
