Does directly starting /usr/lib/openoffice/program/swriter work for you? Other than that: You'll have to compile with USE="gtk" to get ooqstart working atm, this is a rather unfortunate situation for KDE-only users. Sorry for that, we definately have to find a solution here, fast.
Starting directly /usr/lib/openoffice/program/swriter works for me fine.
So what happened here: Upstream removed the support for the old-style wrapper which was used for builds without gtk (which don't build the quickstarter), which results in the broken behaviour you see. I've now readded the wrapper stuff, so this should work as before again. Unfortunately this means you'll have to rebuild... Sorry for the inconvenience. Please give the mirrors some time to sync then try again and please report back, if it works now for you.

I thought the problem might have been more complex than originally thought. Nevertheless, OOo is now building (x3)...
What about quickstarter support for openoffice-bin-2.1.0?

@Andreas: I have found this bug #136879. Aren't you going to provide the same functionality also to openoffice-bin? If you don't want to build a custom openoffice-bin version, is it possible to have a separate openoffice-bin-quickstart package?
