After editing its ebuild -- I just deleted section which unpacks Sound, everything was ok.

Reproducible: Always

> I just deleted section which unpacks Sound

That probably isn't the right solution, judging by the number of sound files:

$ equery files ut2004-data | grep Sounds | wc -l
93

You need to check what's wrong with announcermain.itt_uax.uz2 - whether it has a read error or has been corrupted.

$ ll /mnt/cdrom/CD5/Sounds/announcermain.itt_uax.uz2
11102563

$ md5sum /mnt/cdrom/CD5/Sounds/announcermain.itt_uax.uz2

Ha!
bcd82535e8049bafad10651bafc4c7bf  announcermain.itt_uax.uz2
I understood my mistake when the installation ended -- the game didn't want to start due to absence of sounds.

Which CD do you have?
