The default vimrc in /etc/vim/vimrc sets the fileencoding variable to utf8. When writing mails with mutt and using vim as an editor, the config file get executed and the content type of the mail gets messed up. The file is really utf8, but the content type is set to the "real" content type. This messes up mails containing special characters. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Run mutt, write mail, insert characters from e.g. iso-8859-1 like ö 2.Look at received mail. Actual Results: Characters are garbled. Expected Results: Print the right characters.
That works nicely. What you really have to do is configure mutt properly. Specially, every config file should be utf-8 (including your signature). - ferdy
