When IDE is configured as modules, genkernel initrd fails to include ide-disk, etc., into initramfs -- then upon boot, there's no /dev/hda* devices! Reproducible: Always
You: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." Doctor: "Then don't do that!" *grin* Really, we ship with IDE enabled per default on all of the default configurations. You're aware of the problem, yet don't want to fix it. I'd much prefer not have to add a ton of code to genkernel just to support this configuration that is quite uncommon, especially as we're nearing release time and genkernel is pretty much feature frozen until after the release. Since I'm currently the only active genkernel maintainer, I'm marking this as WONTFIX (and no, reopening it won't make a difference.)
