Description Olivier Thauvin 2007-01-11 02:20:46 UTC
New mirror in France/Paris provided by CNRS/IPSL.

It provide gentoo-portage and gentoo-distfiles tree using http/ftp or rsync protocol.

It seems the is no rsync mirror in france currently.

Urls:

rsync://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/gentoo-distfiles/
ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/gentoo/gentoo-distfiles
http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/gentoo/gentoo-distfiles

rsync://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/gentoo-portage/
ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/gentoo/gentoo-portage
http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/gentoo/gentoo-portage

Last comment, that's nice to need a bugzilla account to discover you have enough mirrors currently. Add a notice on the website instead.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-03 21:27:44 UTC
There's a slight lag in the mirrors, can you please look into it?

 * Timestamp on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr is Sat, 03 Feb 2007 13:08:08 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Sat Feb 3 21:25:49 UTC 2007

Usually, our distfile mirrors sync every 4 hours as specified in the Source Mirror documentation at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml

Should be ok now.
BTW, my timezone is GMT+1 (CET), GMT+2 in summer.
Comment 3 Robert Baxter 2007-06-03 22:18:03 UTC
Olivier, that is why you will always see gentoo people using UTC in timestamps.
237.31K/s to western Canad, mirror looks good.
Comment 4 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-02 14:14:47 UTC
 * Timestamp on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr is Mon, 02 Jul 2007 04:08:29 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Mon Jul 2 14:12:00 UTC 2007

Still lagging, please re-open when fixed.

It is currently syncing from rsync://ftp.belnet.be/gentoo/, and yes rsync hang for some reasons.

However, without any during months, it is hard to really assume you're still interested.

Moreover, I currently two tree from gentoo: distfiles and portage, which one are checking, do you have a procedure I can run myself to check mirror is ok ?

Olivier,

Apologies for the delay, we should have gotten to this earlier, but real life intervenes :)

I was running a check on distfiles, which needs to be synced once in 4 hours as mentioned in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml

gentoo-portage is rsync only (no need to provide http and ftp) and is synced twice an hour as mentioned in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml

Also, gentoo-portage is put on top of the tree, like distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/gentoo-portage
Comment 7 Olivier Thauvin 2007-07-04 02:56:14 UTC
Real life is the worst that can happend ;)

According doc:

1 0-23/4 * * * mmm ~/etc/mmm.cfg run /mnt/distrib/distrib/linux/gentoo-mirror/gentoo-distfiles/

(mmm is a tools I wrote to manage all mirrors process: locking, delay computation, etc...)
So every four hour, 1 minutes to not start in same time than others process basically set at 0 minutes.

gentoo-portage is offer via ftp/http because same rules than others distro I hosted. I can remove if necessary, but "rsync rsync://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/gentoo-distfiles/" works.
So mirrors should comply.

BTW: the last issue come from rsync, I'll have to investigate in code, it hang for an unknown reason even the "--timeout 720" options. I had also to increase the value otherwise the peer mirrors didn't reply before.

Currently is it syncing from belnet.be, closed mirror near of me for the testing procedure (and faster).

Regards.
Comment 8 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-04 18:07:15 UTC
Yeah, real life can be a pain :p

Distfiles looks better :

 * Timestamp on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr is Wed, 04 Jul 2007 14:07:54 +0000
 * Current time in UTC is Wed Jul 4 18:03:34 UTC 2007

And rsync :

IP: distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr
Checked at (UTC)   Timestamp
================================================
     18:04:08   Wed, 04 Jul 2007 16:50:01 +0000

Seems to be lagging. Can you look into this?

I'll run another check in a few days
Comment 9 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-05 09:31:09 UTC
Let me know when the lag is fixed, I'll run a check and add you in.
Comment 10 Olivier Thauvin 2007-08-05 15:56:49 UTC
I currently synch from belnet.be, synching distfiles need more 4 hours at more 1,5MB/s. It seems iso (like releases/historical/sparc/2004.3/livecd/sparc64/install-sparc64-universal-2004.3.iso) are synch completly transfert everyday.

I cannot do more.
Mirror will stay in place, but less synchronize.

Closing then.
