Description Bruce J.A. Nourish 2003-02-21 01:50:17 UTC
KFormula cannot find the math fonts, and hence cannot render font based symbols
(e.g. anything Greek). Non-font stuff like radical/parens is fine, as is all else. When
started from a terminal, a warning is made on stderr, "Cannot find math fonts". I have
strace'd the process, and it sucessfully stats the math fonts in
/usr/share/apps/kformula. There is an strace log (big!) at the URL above.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start KFormula
2.Insert a Sigma symbol
3.Look at screen
Actual Results:
Inserted a non-English character I can't recognize. To see it exactly, look at the URL
above.

Expected Results:
Insert the Greek Sigma.

I'm using KDE3.1 ebuilds. No other part of KDE is giving me trouble.
The only non-stable programs I have are gprolog and ispell.
I am building KOffice on a similar machine and hope to test for the same bug on the
morrow.
I would be happy to recompile KOffice with debugging symbols and work closely with a
developer if need be.
The KFormula site has no bug information, and bugs.kde.org comes up with nothing
relevent on a search for KFormula.

I'm very sorry your report hasn't been processed before...
This is still mainly to acknowledge that "we're here", I'm afraid...
Meanwhile, you might try the new koffice 1.3_beta1 to see if it's fixed there, so we could try
to locate the bugfix and possibly backport it. (On first sight it seems the 1.3b1 kformula
doesn't install any fonts all...) 1.3b1 it's still too unstable for general use, though...

Closing now that 1.3 is almost stable. If this persists in 1.3 versions
please file a new report.
