If i try to open some url with java applet my browsers all crash. I tested it with firefox and opera (both with sun-jdk-1.5.0_10) on x86 and with firefox(64bit) and blackdown-jre(64bit). Hm doesn't happen here with firefox-2.0.0.1, opera 9.10, sun-jdk-1.5 and 1.6. Looks like your opera crashes inside qt. Firefox is gtk, how does a crash look like in firefox?

is there a solution for this problem now?
There are now 1.6 vm's with a browser plugin for amd64. nsplugin use flag is masked for blackdown due to security vulnerabilities. We will not be fixing this.
