0.12 is out but it does not help here.
Comment 2 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2007-02-08 04:57:14 UTC
This comes from the fact that glib is now actually making sure the key names conform to the standard, reassigning to gnome@ due to this having nothing to do with desktop-file-utils, but with GKeyFile in glib
Comment 3 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2007-02-08 05:02:25 UTC
Now about the warning:

It warns because "Generic Name" key name IS invalid, just as it says.
The warning is perfectly correct and the desktop file that has "Generic Name" instead of "GenericName" should be fixed, as it is absolutely wrong with a space in the middle.
grep -l 'Generic Name' /usr/share/applications/* will show what desktop files are wrong and desktop-file-validate will fail on it/them.
I would file a bug against the packages that have this desktop file syntax error.

Also note that glib is issuing a valid warning here, not an error.
Comment 4 Mart Raudsepp gentoo-dev 2007-02-08 05:07:11 UTC
Actually if this is stopping the desktop database to update with the valid desktop files, then I believe update-desktop-database should skip that desktop file and work with all the valid ones.
Though I remember that glib should still work with that key name in case of a warning and it should succeed the update with the wrong desktop file included, that desktop file won't just work correctly.
In the unlikely chance that the the update actually fails, please reopen.
