This is probably a no-brainer... As said in bug #159832, "afs" is one amongst many USE-flags that have been masked in about all profiles but x86. Most comments point to "it doesn't work on other architectures", which is quite outdated, as openafs is stable on not only x86, but also alpha, amd64, ia64, ppc and ppc64. I propose the afs flag be removed from all use.mask files (current count: 35 for all architectures together) As far as I can tell, the afs USE-flag is currently only IUSE'd by app-crypt/kth-krb app-shells/bash In bash, there are only three small code sections enabled by this flag. In kth-krb, due to a typo, this flag currently has no effect (meaning afs-support is always enabled, see line 178 in configure.in). Thanks!
ppc64 done (although it is still masked due to the shared profiles between ppc and ppc64, but when ppc fixes this, then we are done)
amd64 unmasked
done on ppc*.
ia64 will unmask this when bug 171662 and bug 156008 are done.
done on alpha
ia64 doesn't have openafs keyworded, so the mask will stay.
