I have emerged rubygems, and installed some gems ("gem install ....") then entered the irb (interactive interpreter for ruby) and trying to load one of them ("require 'rubygems'", "require 'gem_name'") there is allways the same result: false. It doesn't happen with ruby standard library (eg. "require 'cgi'" => true). It's even more extrange, because the gem is really being loaded, and you can make use of the library, but irb says allways false. This is normal ruby behavior; a side affect of gems unfortunately. But it's not a Gentoo bug. If you want to catch whether there was an issue loading, look for a thrown LoadError.
Thank you for your answer. Problably that's the normal beahaviour with the version 0.8. As I also run sometimes ubuntu, and it didn't have that problem (it returns true when loading rubygems or a gem), I checked ubuntu rubygems version. It is 0.9 so I have installed the 0.9 version in gentoo, and it seems things have changed: now require 'rubygems' => false, but require other gems (example require 'rio') => true
Yep - gems is going through some growing pains right now it seems.
