I install samba (net-fs/samba-3.0.22-r3) with the following use flags: USE="mysql pam python readline syslog winbind xml" Cups is not installed on this system. But in the sylog samba is reporting about a printing failure. Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: [2007/01/03 21:30:03, 0] printing/pcap.c:pcap_cache_reload(159) Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcap for read! Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: [2007/01/03 21:30:03, 0] printing/pcap.c:pcap_cache_reload(159) Jan 3 21:30:03 gentoo-server smbd[25848]: Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcap for read! In the smb.conf there a no printers. So it can only be a bug in the samba ebuild.

The same configuration works on a Debian Server with Samba 3.0.22 without problems. Only on Gentoo with Samba version 3.0.22 i receive this error in the syslog. So, I think it
