so run it through `strace` and see where it's getting hung up
hmm, for some reason it is working fine now. I was burning some cd's with k3b when I was using it last time. Maybe that is why it malfunctioned?
yes, that would cause the problem as lshw would try to access your ide devices but the kernel would have it locked since you were writing to it
this behavior is by design
