but a) god is an idea, not something that consciously effects the environment b) there are hundreds of thousands of stray cats in the world, largely due to irresponsible owners who think they can play with life for a while, then abandon it. fewer kittens helps this problem. and, c) I simply followed the example of the previous bump request. I've also seen releases go unnoticed for longer than a week before. bumping 0day can't possibly hurt anyone, I'm sure we simply intend it as a friendly helping hand from those of us who care and can't help in other ways. no, we aren't being selfish, demanding and impatient. thanks for the hard work (:
As with most maintainers I'd suspect, we're subscribed to the mailing list/prerelease information and or have a good relationship with upstream and get told its coming on $x date. We still wait for the packages to be released, but can get prepared for the 0 day bugs, which make developers cry!
Mmm, you're right. So I suppose the only time bumps are necessary is when the maintainer is on vacation? For popular packages anyway. Next time I'll hold off for a while, though that just means someone else will do it. I suppose what I want is some way to tell what's going on (not saying I deserve it). Wikipedia just reminded me again how great it is to have a centralized source of information - very updated and provides links to the most pertainent articles. Sure you can search for more information, but everything there tells you most of what you want to know with very little hassle. So rather than searching through mailing lists, forums and bug records, it'd be nice to have some kind of wiki-like thing on top of svn/cvs. Maybe a blend of trac/sourceforge/freshmeat. Something that blends all the above into a well organized repository for information regarding the project, and allowing user input and discussion. Interesting idea anyway. If the world truly adopts unanimous use of open source, something like that would be nice. Don't mind me. Just dreaming out loud. (and in the wrong place) Thanks again.
developers don't like 0day bugs, and that is undestandable. But right now there is no other way for users to get notified on the progress of a version bump (if there is, please enlighten me) other than constantly refreshing packages.gentoo.org which is a pita. If for nothing else, this bug helps users keep up with the changes via email. Now I realize this is way OT, so I filed bug 159235 as a suggestion.
Is there any chance of getting aquamarine with this release?
I'm going to say no on aquamarine, it seems almost everyone is having crash issues, rather not have a known buggy release added.
Should be committed and hitting the mirrors in the next few hours. Hopefully, without digest problems this time. As nes stated, aquamarine is not being added at this time. If it built and ran decently for a bit I'd add it, however that is not the case at the moment. Though once it does work I will add it to the tree as I know quite a few people who want their kde decorations.
bery-dbus seems to have a problem. See: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159432
