The author claims that there are no security issues with his included zlib:

No, it uses a customised zlib; the compressed file support requires extra 
hooks which are not present in the standard zlib distribution.

I applied patches for a number of zlib issues last year; I'm not aware of any 
outstanding security issues, but haven't been actively keeping an eye out for 
them either.

So if someone knows of any issues which are still in his copy of zlib, I assume it is best to notify him.
