Description Sébastien Fabbro (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-22 15:08:28 UTC
I am trying to set up slimserver on amd64. I had several problems:
- could not start without dev-perl/DBD-mysql-3.0007, although ebuild depends on 3.0002 only
- once /etc/init.d/slimserver starts, it falls down automatically.

Hi Sebastien,

I'll update the dependencies to use DBD-mysql-3.0007.

Re the database problem, it looks like the slimserver database was only partially created the first time and this confused slimserver when it started the second time. Please try deleting everything in /var/cache/slimserver and trying again.

Cheers,
Tom
Comment 2 Sébastien Fabbro (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-12-24 07:08:34 UTC
Hi Tom,

Thanks for the answer. I actually removed everything in /var/*/slimserver, even the user/group, and re-emerged slimserver. It gave me the same problem.

I used to have a slimserver 6.1.1 with the ebuilds in bug #73832.
But I can't find any left over files from the old slimserver that I have not removed. It seems a cache problem, may be in the /etc/slimserver.prefs.

Hmmm, in that case I'm very confused. Is there anything non-standard about your MySQL setup? Please post the output of emerge --info.

Thanks,
Tom

I have dev-db/mysql-5.0.26-r1 installed with virtual/mysql-5.0.
Could this mysql confuse the one embedded in slimserver?

emerge --info gives me:

Sebastien,

I'm sorry, I don't know what's going wrong on your system. Can you post your problem on http://forums.slimdevices.com/ and/or experiment with slimserver's debug switches. Let me know what you find out...

Cheers,
Tom

Still waiting for more information from bug reporter.
Comment 7 Sébastien Fabbro (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-03-28 20:05:57 UTC
Hi Tom,

Well I did submit my problem to the forums back then, with no answers:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31046

There must be something wrong on my system, but I just can't find out what.
I played with debug switches, removed all /var/*/slimserver*, emerged again, still nothing. Note the debug error has been shorter with slimserver-6.5.1, I now just get:

Database error: Can't create table './slimserver/years.frm' (errno: 121) at /opt/slimserver/CPAN/DBIx/Migration.pm line 115.

As I said before, as a user /opt/slimserver/slimsever.pl still starts OK though.

I will open another thread on the slimserver forums, meanwhile if you have any clue, they are more than welcome!

Thanks,

Sébastien
