After installing Realplayer via the ebuild + download from Real, the menu options Realplayer presents for Realplayer Configuration and Replayer itself are represented by boxes where alpha characters should be. seems more of a font problem than a realplayer problem. Spider?
I'm no font expert, but what does "locale" give for an output for you?
Yeah, it would make sense as a font problem. Not that I've done anything that should be peculiar with the fonts on the system (that I know of). Here's "locale": # locale LANG=POSIX LC_CTYPE="POSIX" LC_NUMERIC="POSIX" LC_TIME="POSIX" LC_COLLATE="POSIX" LC_MONETARY="POSIX" LC_MESSAGES="POSIX" LC_PAPER="POSIX" LC_NAME="POSIX" LC_ADDRESS="POSIX" LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX" LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX" LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX" LC_ALL=
okay.. odder and odder.. can you paste the output of "xset q" here? That should show the "Font Path:" string, which is the interesting part. also can you check that some other Xlib program (xpdf for example) finds its fonts? Since the realplayer binary is dynamically linked against X the X version may have something to add (it doesnt use Qt or gtk+ or other toolkits )
is this still an issue?
No response for over a year. Spider, should this be marked RESOLVED/NEEDINFO?
Latest version does not have problem.
