I'll be testing this on a P3 tonight. Meanwhile, here's the announcement:

Hi,

After the latest 1.8.5-p2 release (which was a security fix), we have
backported several patches from ruby_1_8 branch and now 1.8.5 has
patchlevel of 11.  I think this Christmas is a good day to release
them.  The schedule for this release is:

Dec. 18: preview1
Dec. 25: release.

And here is the preview mentioned above:

In case of no problems this will automatically be the release. 
Otherwise we may take another round of preview.  Please try, and report
whatever you find.

Well, I got the date right, but they increased the patch level:

Hi all.

We released Ruby 1.8.5-p12, the latest stable version of Ruby. There are
several fixes made when 1.8.5 had not been branched yet. On this release
we backported them into 1.8.5.
