Ok, but what's the point of building and installing lxdvdrip vamps ? Does it provide any improvement to media-video/vamps ?
Comment 4 georg.wacker 2006-12-12 07:16:47 UTC
Yes it is a patched version for lxdvdrip, Stefan Becker, who mantains lxdvdrip keeps it up to date. Once there was a plan to name it lxvamps.

Further the conf which ships with lxdvdrip points to vamps_lxdvdrip per default.

Then, so be it, 1.62 now builds its own vamps copy. Thanks for reporting.

Yep, according to the source code diff there is an option that was not present in vamps 0.99.2. This might lead to some problems that I didn't see while bumping it. I removed lxdvdrip vamps because I don't like that every single package comes with its own version of each software rather than merging their changes with upstream. IMHO, if this cannot be merged that means that the changes are not good enough ;) But as you pointed it, in that case it might be needed.

That's not a good argument since you should modify it before running lxdvdrip adjusting it to your needs :)
