PostGIS 1.2.0 Release December 8, 2006 The 1.2.0 release of PostGIS is now available. This is a major new feature release, with the first PostGIS support for "curve" types, and initial support for the ISO SQL/MM suite of spatial database functions. Over time, the 1.2.X series will elabourate on the basic support provided in this release: * New Curve type, based on the ISO SQL/MM model for curves. * Index binding for curves, allowing them to use the same R-Tree indexes as the other types. * Serialization and deserialization functions for Curve, allowing them to be dumped and restored. * Performance shortcuts for Contains and Within to optimize point-in-polygon case. * Support for most of the ST_* and SE_* spatial SQL functions used by the ESRI ArcSDE spatial SQL interfaces. * Documentation of the new SQL/MM functions and Curve types.
The ebuild allready available into the portage tree just works for postgis-1.2.0 (as for 1.1.6). Users which would like to upgrade their spatialized databases from an older versions must take care about the availability of the liblwgeom.so.1.1 symlink. So to be able to upgrade youre allready spatialized databases, you need to symlink /usr/lib/postgresql/liblwgeom.so.1.1 to /usr/lib/postgresql/liblwgeom.so. A warning message must inform the users about that or maybe the ebuild must create this symlink if there was allready an older postgis version installed.
tested this and works fine on x86 for me.
Some things has to be updated and has allready uptated but i need to double checks this things. For exemple the new ebuilds serie for postgis will handle the template_postgis creation in pkg_config and even will be updated if it's required. We also solve the problem concerning the version number of the dynamic library (when passing from a version X.Y.Z to X.Y'.Z, where Y is different to Y') to be able to made a soft upgrade easily from an end user point of view, and this also solve the bug #130279. This things will be double checked and updated to the portage tree, if all work fine, during the next week (maybe 27 or 28 december). Some tests has allready made and sounds great, but I realy need a little break for christmass personaly before doing the double check, I hope it's not too long for everyone.
I needed more time to solve some issues with pkg_config, thanks to dev-zero for his relevant feedbacks and ideas. Postgis version 1.2.0 is now available in portage.
