Every other gentoo release cd would boot fine, but the new 1.0 cd does not. I believe the problem is with the kernel included. It boots fine, detects my promise ultra66 and the 2 drives on it, but then when it is querying the hard drives, it hangs. I have the same problem with redhat and mandrake boot cds. It can query the drive attached to the motherboard, but the ones on the u66. Again, this did not happen with previous gentoo boot cds. It could be the ide patch, but I'm not really sure.
might be the ide patch. Dunno. Check with andre@linux-ide.org and see what he says. Tell him that we're using a "shawn10a" kernel (2.4.19-pre4-ac2 plus some extras).
Is this still an issue with the 1.1a cd?
Yes, it is still an issue, though not necessarily a gentoo issue since I have the same problem with certain redhat and mandrake boot cds. The only thing gentoo could change would be the kernel, but since the 1.0 cd boots fine for me, I can just swap it out for 1.1a cd after booting.
I now have a Promise card in my system for testing; our 1.4_rc1 gamecd doesn't do this so I'm closing the bug :)
