After having been able to start gnome, using beryl, rotating up within the WM environment, not being able to get back to a desktop (rotate down), ctrl+alt+backspace, startx again, invoking gnome-session gives 2 error pop-ups regarding "problem registering the panel with bonobo-activation server" and "cannot start nautilus".
Tried the "fix" referred to in bug 39223, still same error.

First of all, try to tone down your CFLAGS. Please read http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/gnome/gnome-policy.xml#doc_chap2

If you could try to do a revdep-rebuild. It looks like you updated evolution-data-server which usually breaks gnome-panel.
Comment 2 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-06-16 09:30:21 UTC
you need to check if anything is still running after you do ctrl+alt+backspace. The panel failing to register is often a sign of bonobo-activation-server not dying.
you also need to check/attach your .xsession-errors
