xchat just announced a new pre release.

Development is underway on a new series: 2.8.x. Currently you can test 2.7.90 on Linux, feedback would be appreciated. The major addition in this version is system-tray integration. It's already quite stable and usable.

could samone pls create an ebuild

With 2.8.0 being in the tree, I consider this bug fixed.
