Almost immediately, Evolution puts up a dialog box that says that it has lost its connection to the Evolution Exchange backend process. It does display my Exchange folders, but quits when I try to view a message. I don't believe that evolution-2.8.2.1 worked with evolution-exchange-2.8.2, but I think it did with evolution-exchange-2.8.1. I am currently downgrading to evolution-exchange-2.8.1, and I will let you know if that works. I have re-emerged evolution-2.8.2.1 and evolution-exchange2.8.2, but that has not helped. I will attach 4 files: 1. emerge --info 2. The log (script) of invocations 3. The log of 'env CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& /tmp/camel.out &' 4. The log of 'env E2K_DEBUG=4 ${install_prefix}/libexec/evolution-exchange-storage >& /tmp/exchange.out &'

Downgrading to evolution-exchange-2.8.1 does not help. I will try downgrading to evolution-2.8.1.1.
Downgrading to evolution-2.8.1.1 did not work. What did work was to rename ~/.evolution and to copy the addressbook, calendar and signatures directories to a newly created ~/.evolution. For the time being I have masked evolution-2.8.2.1 and evolution-exchange-2.8.2.
Downgrading to P2 since there is a workaround.
Thank you for report, Vladimir. I found this bug reported in UPSTREAM bugzilla and posted there your observations. You may wish to CC there to track bug changes.
More recent versions of Evolution have fixed whatever problem(s) existed.
