Hi, 
In /etc/portage/package.keywords, i added 
app-text/poppler ~x86

I emerge poppler and then kpdf. kpdf 3.5.5 failed to emerge with the following error (emerge --info is after) :

Solved! I need to emerge poppler-bindings (~x86) too.
Now kpdf is emerging !
