Appearance of kde is drastically altered if afterstep is used. Using kdm login to kde and adjust the settings to your liking. Then logout and login to afterstep. Afterstep should not be allowed to alter settings for other window managers.

This, actually, is disabled by default in current versions (some of which are not marked stable yet).

Whether or not AS should be allowed to alter settings is debatable. Should it not be able to retheme kde apps running under AfterStep? Anyway, like I said, just update to 2.2.4 and you should be fine.

This is not a bug. Even if it were, there's nothing to fix, except for marking current afterstep versions as stable.

For the record, though, David, what version were you using when you experienced AS overwriting your KDE colorscheme?

All versions of afterstep other than 2.2.4 are affected. I don't know if 2.2.4 exhibits the same flaw.

In fact, this is a bug. Afterstep can and should be allowed to retheme apps under afterstep but not retheme apps run under a different WM. No WM should alter the appearance of applications that are run with entirely different themes under a different WM.

FVWM-Crystal has a completely different appearance from KDE yet does not alter the appearance of KDE apps under KDE. As an example, if KDE changes the appearance of apps under GNOME the same bug is present in KDE.

Biggest annoyance example: The <Commit> button in the "Additional Comments" section has the font altered to be the same color as the bg. All other changes have been restored.

actually... this is a case of:
1. kde has a config file for it's colorschemes.
2. kde applications, regardless as to what WM is running, utilize this config file.
3. AS has the ability to modify the config file, and debatably the right to do so. Regardless, there's no way for AS to theme KDE apps /without/ munging this file.

How do you think AfterStep should modify this file, yet leave it pristine for KDE? Reversion at shutdown won't work if WM/X are kill'd. File backup copies neither heal KDE automatically, nor are suitable for the large number of colorsheme possibilities that AS might want to impose.

Remove the following 2 files $HOME/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals and $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kdisplay/color-themes/Afterstep
