On a new system, an attempt to

emerge kdm

using the gentoo.oregonstate.edu mirror

failed with a missing patch file

Reproducible: Didn't try

no, surely not -- it seems like you have not rsync'd recently, because the patch should be in ${FILESDIR} and I've verified that the current ebuild is thus...
Comment 2 Rick Jenkins 2003-02-13 13:15:13 UTC
I didn't sync immediately before the emerge, probably a mistake. Hold onto your hat while I try again; this will take an hour or two.
Comment 3 Rick Jenkins 2003-02-13 13:51:19 UTC
Right, a new sync fixed. I'm embarassed.

This may be an issue for the documentation people; we newbies need it hammered into our thick skulls that the sync must be really fresh. Personally, I'll get into the habit of using

emerge sync && emerge <whatever>

in future. Thanks very much for your help.
