On a new system, an attempt to emerge kdm using the gentoo.oregonstate.edu mirror failed with a missing patch file Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Build a new Gentoo system, get network, Xfree, sound, and a new kernel up and running. 2. emerge kdm Actual Results: The final screen includes: >>> emerge (27 of 67) app-admin/fam-oss-2.6.9-r1 to / >>> Downloading http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu//distfiles/fam-2.6.9.tar.gz . . . >>> Unpacking fam-2.6.9.tar.gz /usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: Line 27: /usr/portage/distfiles/dnotify.patch: No such file or directory !!! ERROR: app-admin/fam-oss-2.6.9-r1 failed. !!! Function src_unpack, Line 27, Exit code 1 !!! (no error message)
no, surely not -- it seems like you have not rsync'd recently, because the patch should be in ${FILESDIR} and I've verified that the current ebuild is thus...
I didn't sync immediately before the emerge, probably a mistake. Hold onto your hat while I try again; this will take an hour or two.
Right, a new sync fixed. I'm embarassed. This may be an issue for the documentation people; we newbies need it hammered into our thick skulls that the sync must be really fresh. Personally, I'll get into the habit of using emerge sync && emerge <whatever> in future. Thanks very much for your help.
