Description Stuart Herbert (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-02-13 05:49:36 UTC
Kernel gentoo-sources 2.4.19-r10 will not successfully boot when running as a
guest operating system under VMWare workstation 3.2 on Windows XP.

There are no errors - everything just hangs. See attachment for screen shot
showing where the boot process stops.

Problem does not occur with vanilla-sources 2.4.20. Problem occurs with both
Grub and Lilo bootloaders. Problem occurs before the kernel starts the init
process.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Configure and compile gentoo-sources 2.4.19-r10
2. Configure your favourite boot loader
3. Reboot ;-)

Actual Results:
Kernel hung during boot.

Expected Results:
Kernel should have completed booting, and executed the init process.

Can you post your kernel config file then? Maybe one of the options I have configured is causing the problem.

Ta,
Stu
