I too get this, on amd64 Is it not just a case of re-generating the digest file?

While regenerating the digest file will work, that is not a good idea. If someone sneaks a trojan tar file into portage, the digest mismatch is to prevent you from using it. This really needs to be fixed in portage and as of a few minutes ago, it still was not.
