Lately I've noticed my /dev/nvidiactl is getting permissions of crw------- 1 root root 195, 255 Nov 15 14:19 /dev/nvidiactl I believe this started happening after the pam pam_console updates. To try to troubleshoot the problem first I looked at: sbh@rocket ~ % grep '<dri>' /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms <dri>=/dev/nvidia* /dev/3dfx* /dev/dri/card* <console> 0600 <dri> 0600 root I think this is the problem. I don't have any boxes that have the old default.perms file on it, but I believe it was different. After changing to: crw-rw---- 1 root games 195, 255 Nov 15 14:19 /dev/nvidiactl the game works fine. Thanks.
Created attachment 102606 [details, diff] a quick patch (And yeah, I'm dead serious on this one)

I don't understand. If the package were broken it'd be one thing, but it's a default perms problem. Besides it worked before. And it's easily fixable. Why shouldn't it be fixed? And if you're gonna apply that patch it should probably be something more like: "Do NOT report any permissions-related issues to Gentoo bugzilla." to "Do NOT report any permissions-related issues about this ebuild to Gentoo bugzilla." Sorry about the dupe, it's related to the b.g.o deal today.
I've added a similar disclaimer on 0.99.7.0.2.7 version. If you want, you can ask RedHat to fix it, or gentopia to stop recommending to use the crap that pam_console is. Hint: if you use your system to play, it's unlikely you actually need pam_console at all.
Diego, we don't recommend pam_console. It's just necessary for some setups with HAL.
Potato, potato.. rather you should be stating clearly _when_ it is needed, because for most of home setups it is not needed at all, but people still think there's a cool factor in it.
And that's where you hit them with the *boom* stick... the one with 50,000 volts in it. Cool factor people need to get shot.
