The above message started after kdebase 3.5.5-r1 was emerged, The -r2 package does not fix this. Su alone works fine - its just kdesu that has a problem. What else is needed to debug this? Ed Tomlinson

Yes, I also have this problem. A *temporary* workaround is to emerge sudo, use visudo -s to edit the sudoers file giving all users in the wheel group permission to run all commands using sudo and then setting up kdesu to use sudo (by creating a new file at: ~/.kde/share/config/kdesurc and putting into it: [super-user-command] super-user-command=sudo And while it works it is far from perfect (some apps such as the k3bsetup application do not work using it).
Same problem here. But strangely it works with strace -f. So perhaps its some kind of race?
kdesu from kdebase-3.5.6-r1 seems to work just fine here, are you still experiencing the problem with this version?

In my case it was not an error of kdesu. The application I started with kdesu was broken.
