You have to use the kernel module in the FUSE package with this version of ntfs-3g, not the module that comes with the kernel.
(In reply to comment #2) > You have to use the kernel module in the FUSE package with this version of > ntfs-3g, not the module that comes with the kernel. > Ok, BUT what to do exactly. Is this file in the ebuild? Would you be so kind, and tell me the hole way a bit more exactly, please. I'm not a developer. Maybe there is a link to a homepage, which descripes this more exactly. Maybe it would be a good thing to release a new release of gentoo-sources, with this issue fixed. (Best would be this solution.) Thanks everyone for your help roman gruber
(In reply to comment #3) > Ok, BUT what to do exactly. Is this file in the ebuild? The fuse ebuild builds his own fuse module, if and only if fuse support in the kernel is completly deactived (no in-kernel nor module support).

Everything worked fine for ntfs3g-20061031 and fuse-2.6.0_rc*. Now with ntfs3g-20061115 and fuse-2.6.0 I get the following when trying to mount as user: joe@joe-gentoo ~ $ mount /mnt/winD fusermount: option blkdev is privileged Failed to create FUSE mount point. Retry to create FUSE mount point ... fusermount: option blkdev is privileged Failed to create FUSE mount point. Unmounting /dev/hda3 () Mounting as root works perfectly. My fuse.conf: joe@joe-gentoo ~ $ cat /etc/fuse.conf user_allow_other As said it worked with earlier versions, and even ntfs3g-20061115-r1 doesn't work. fuse is disabled in kernel config. joe-gentoo ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.1.1-r1 (default-linux/x86/2006.1, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r4, 2.6.18-gentoo-r2 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.18-gentoo-r2 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.6 Last Sync: Mon, 20 Nov 2006 17:50:01 +0000 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.30 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.60 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ ftp://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/Linux/gentoo ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/ " LANG="de_DE.utf8" LC_ALL="de_DE.utf8" LINGUAS="de" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X acpi aiglx alsa berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dga dlloader doc dri dvd dvdr dvdread elibc_glibc encode flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm hal iconv input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse isdnlog jpeg kde kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility kdexdeltas kernel_linux libg++ linguas_de mad mp3 ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ogg openal opengl pam pcre perl png ppds pppd python qt readline reflection scanner sdl session spl ssl symlink tcpd truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb userland_GNU userlocales video_cards_fglrx video_cards_radeon vorbis win32codecs xine xorg xvid zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
try remerging sys-fs/fuse, then unmounting all FUSE mounts and doing modprobe -r fuse modprobe fuse It looks like you are still using a kernel module from an older version. If you can't remove the module after unmounting all FUSE mounts, then you will need to reboot.
The dying on compiled in kernel should be a fix for this here, some people may need to remove and re-insert their FUSE module.
This problem is described at http://www.ntfs3g.org/support.html#fuse26 . The gentoo-sources-2.6.18-r2 has old fuse kernel module.
