net-misc/dhcdbd installs a buggy configuration file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/dhcdbd.conf which has references to the user "named".
Because no such user exists on my system, I get warning messages on boot.

It is a cosmetic bug.  It is there because you don't have bind installed.  It is not a requirement, so I don't force it on.  If you want to remove the warning message, then edit the config file.  This is in there for ease of use.  It is not, I repeat, it is not, a bug.
