Hardware
AMD K6-2  450MHz
196M DRAM

liveCD x86 1.4_rc2 Could not boot
It just hung up with message:

Kernel BUG at slab.c:1128!
invalid operand: 0000
.....
.....



Also tried gentoo 1.2 on the same machine, it worked

slab.c:1128 seems related to smp,  
could you try booting with nosmp option 
run 
gentoo noapic nosmp acpi=off

some boards just dont like apic/smp....

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
