Description F Vincken 2006-11-18 04:45:08 UTC
Using the lates install image (install-x86-minimal-2006.1.iso) it's not possible to export any directory through NFS using any combination of export options. Even though the userspace tools for starting an NFS server are present.

This is (probably) because NFS support is not properly compiled in the kernel:

Nov 18 13:30:13 livecd nfsd[13815]: nfssvc: Function not implemented

It's handy to be able to start an NFS server to backup some files before starting installing... so it would be nice if this functionality would be restored. (Or the userspace tools removed at least.)

The userspace tools are there for mounting NFS exports, which there *is* support for. The minimal CD is meant to be used for installing, not backup/rescue work.

The LiveCD does have the nfsd module, however, so you can use it for what you want. Of course, you can also use more sane options like combinations of tar and ssh.

You don't need the nfs-utils to mount.

Sure, but there are some programs that are handy when you're dealing with NFS mounts. Regardless, the minimal CD is still not meant for use as a NFS server.
