Description Fabio Erculiani 2006-11-17 02:53:35 UTC
Hello,
I've backported a 2.6.19 patch that fix the boot hangups on NVIDIA AM2 mainboards:

This is the first:
http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=dfa4698c50bf85b7927214b0e4a3dc4bc3b3c4a9

And the second one:
http://www.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=e70ea8c09db0e25ab58f84ba7f393e5c9125a8ee;hp=dbaab49f92ff6ae6255762a948375e4036cbdbd2

I've created gentoo-sources-2.6.18-r3 in the "sabayon" overlay adapting the patches above for 2.6.18. I suggest AM2 owners to test those and report back the results. Is there a chance to have those in future g-s-2.6.18 releases?

These patches make no functional changes overall (compared to 2.6.18):

The first patch removes the ATI quirk, the 2nd patch readds it. The 2nd patch also makes timer_over_8254 default to 1, just like it is in 2.6.18.

However, if someone can demonstrate that this patch does make a difference to 2.6.18 then I'd consider it if the actual problem is also explained. I wouldn't want to apply both of those patches (since the first includes a fairly large cleanup) but would backport any functional changes.

I am going to test those in a couple of days on a known to not work mainboard.
