I am upgrading gcc 3.3.6 to 4.1.1 according to the gcc upgrading howto. I am past the `emerge --emptytree system' step, and during the last step `emerge --emptytree world' emerge media-gfx/sam2p-0.44 failed. I will put the emerge log in an attachment. Here is my emerge --info: szitakoto portage # emerge --info Portage 2.1.2_rc1-r5 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) Gentoo Base System version 1.12.6 Last Sync: Thu, 09 Nov 2006 09:20:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5, 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig buildpkg ccache distlocks keeptemp metadata-transfer nostrip sandbox sfperms strict userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.math.bme.hu http://gentoo.mirror.icd.hu/ http://gentoo.inf.elte.hu/ ftp://gentoo.inf.elte.hu/ http://gentoo.inode.at/ ftp://gentoo.inode.at/source/ http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ ftp://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/" LANG="hu_HU.utf8" LC_ALL="C" LINGUAS="hu de en fr ru jp" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X X509 Xaw3d a52 aac alsa aotuv apache2 apm audiofile bash-completion berkdb bidi bindist bitmap-fonts bl browserplugin bzip2 cddb cdparanoia cjk cle266 cli cracklib crypt cups debug dga divx4linux dlloader dri dts dv dvb dvd ecc edl eds elibc_glibc emboss encode erandom fam fame ffmpeg flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hpn i8x0 iconv imlib input_devices_evdev input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse ipv6 isdnlog jpeg jpeg2k kde kdeenablefinal kdexdeltas kernel_linux libcaca libg++ libwww linguas_de linguas_en linguas_fr linguas_hu linguas_jp linguas_ru live lzo mad mailwrapper matrox md5sum mikmod mjpeg mmap mmx mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mpi mythtv ncurses nls nojoystick nptl nptlonly nsplugin ogg on-the-fly-crypt openexr opengl oss pam pam_chroot pam_console pam_timestamp pcre perl pg-hier pg-intdatetime pic png portaudio pppd python qt3 qt4 quicktime readline real reflection sasl scanner sdl session slp smartcard smp sms sndfile spell spl sse sse2 ssl svg symlink tcpd theora tidy truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts ucs2 udev unicode usb userland_GNU userlocales v4l v4l2 vcd video_cards_fbdev video_cards_mga vidix vorbis win32codecs wmf xanim xine xinerama xml xorg xprint xv xvid xvmc zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY

Just added 0.45 to portage which should fix the compilation issues. Download from sam2p-0.45.tar.bz2 from http://dev.gentoo.org/~twp/distfiles/sam2p-0.45.tar.bz2 if it doesn't download automatically. The author refuses to distribute version-stamped tarballs so we have to mirror them for Gentoo, and it can take a while for these to propagate. Re-open this bug if problems persist. Cheers, Tom

Thank you, Tom! > The author refuses to distribute > version-stamped tarballs so we have to mirror them for Gentoo AFAIK the author is Hungarian, just like me. So I am ready to try a phone-call, maybe he will agree to help Gentoo developers. Shell I call him? What shall I ask for? G

Gábor, Here's the email I sent back in April 2004: ----8<---- Dear Péter, I maintain the package for your excellent sam2p software for the Gentoo Linux distribution. The Gentoo packaging system (portage) requires that the user be able to download an explicit version of sam2p, version 0.43 for example. Please could you provide versioned tarballs of sam2p, i.e. sam2p-0.43.tar.gz, sam2p-0.44.tar.gz, etc. on the sam2p homepage. For more information, please have a look at: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42651 Thanks, -- Tom ----8<---- I didn't get any response from him, at the time, but maybe it's worth another try. Cheers, Tom
