Description Sasha Polonsky 2006-11-09 02:35:39 UTC
I have built Gentoo workstation with KDE on Intel Pentium 4 with 64-bit mode support and noticed that noatun and kaboodle silently refused to play MP3 files, but play WAV and OGG files without problems. Of course, aRts have been compiled with mp3 USE-flag, and according to ldd artsd depends on libmad. In text mode mpg123 and madplay play MP3 files without problems. I tried to start arts in text mode with debug information (artsd -l 0 -a alsa and artsd -l 0 -a oss) and run artsplay File.mp3 on the second terminal. The output of aRts as well as emerge --info follow.

Is this still an issue with arts-3.5.5?
Comment 2 Sasha Polonsky 2007-02-12 10:01:37 UTC
Well, too much time have passed. I noticed this bug when I was setting up Linux workstation for our customer who needed it to run some scientific software written in Fortran. I waited three days and saw no reaction on my bug report. When I unmerged noatun, installed audacious which plays MP3 files very well, and shipped workstation to the customer. So now I have no hardware to check out aRts 3.5. You may close the bug as non-reproducible.
