Spellcheck, in fact, Any check, should be an automatic dependency for any office package. To not install the pieces for spell check is just inane. Additionally, in a simple update, it is extremely likely that a user will miss installing the critical package which provides that functionality. As I see it there are two key problems. 1) Spellcheck is a reasonably function to assume is included. 2) There is no warning that spell check is not installed when using the application. It even behaves as if everything is spelled correctly when requesting a spell check. To resolve this: The related packages should be dependencies based on the LINGUAS setting. If that is not a feature the portage system can currently support, then automatically include every possible language if that is not specifically set some other way. http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141260 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144561
